Terdapat tiga bagian dalam struktur kebahasaan yang dimiliki Discussion Text, yaitu berupa :
  • Issue
adalah ‘masalah utama’ yang akan didiskusikan lebih lanjut. Pada umumnya, topik atau masalah utama yang disajikan adalah permasalahan yang kontroversial sehingga menciptakan banyak argument, baik yang mendukung ataupun yang bertentangan.
  • Arguments:
1.Supporting points (pendapat yang mendukung):
pada bagian ini, kita harus memberikan pendapat yang mendukung topik atau masalha utama.

2.Contrasting points (pendapat yang menentang):
tentunya berbeda dengan supporting point, disini kita dituntut untuk memberikan arguments yang menolakatau yang bertentangan dengan Supporting points.
  • Recommendation / conclusion 
Pada bagian ini, kita membutuhkan wawasan yang luas dalam melihat permasalahan dari topik tersebut. Kita harus mengambil jalan tengah menengai masalah yang sedang dibahas supaya kesimpulan kita nanti tidak menimbulkan atau memunculkan masalah baru lagi.

National exam becomes the hottest topic to be discussed every year. Especially when all educational elements are busy to prepare their students to face national exam. Although the government always carries out the national exam every year, some still debate whether it is necessary to maintain the national exam. Does the quality of Indonesia education depend on it? If there is no national exam, will the Indonesia education become worse or better?

Ujian nasional menjadi topik terpanas yang akan dibahas setiap tahun. Terutama ketika semua elemen pendidikan sibuk untuk mempersiapkan siswa mereka untuk menghadapi ujian nasional. Meskipun pemerintah selalu melakukan ujian nasional setiap tahun, beberapa masih memperdebatkan apakah perlu untuk mempertahankan ujian nasional. People, who agree and support the national exam, insist that the Indonesia education drop if there is no national exam.  So they try to defend the system.

However, some people who are against the national exam question the government policy in maintaining the national exam. They explain that the quality of Indonesia education not just depend on the national exam. Further, there are too many fouls appear during the national exam. This indicates that not all schools are ready to hold the national exam.

Namun, beberapa orang yang menentang pertanyaan ujian nasional kebijakan pemerintah dalam menjaga ujian nasional. This need to be evaluated by all the educational elements to solve whether the national exam is useful or not. The government has just published a report which suggest that television is partly responsible for the serious increase in crime over the last ten years. The exposure of violence or pornography harmfully effects on children.

Many people who are alive today know what it is like to live in a world without television. Television as we know is only about forty years old. Yet it is so much a part of our lives that it seems as if it had always existed. Some people think that the years before the invention of television were a better time. They claim that families talked more and did more things together. More books were read. People used their imaginations more fully. People got more outdoor exercises.

But others disagree. They claim that television is a powerful educational tool. It informs us of what is going on in the world, from a famine in Africa to a local politics and fashion. It helps us understand how people live, work, and struggle.

In 1961, Newton Minow, a government official, called prime-time schedules “ a vast wasteland.” Television is credited with being a great teacher, but it is also blamed for the poor reading and writing skills of our population. Television gets praised for helping us understand the people of the world. But it has been accused of helping to destroy family life. Television keeps us informed about the political issues of the day.

Experts will probably continue to argue about television’s value. But everyone agrees that it is one of the most significant inventions of the twentieth century.

Giving Children Homework

There are a lot of discussion as to whether children should be given homework or not. Is it enough for children having time to study at school or needing additional time in home for study after school time?

Some people claim that children do enough work in school already. They also argue that children have their hobbies which they want to do after school, such as sport or music. A further point they make is that a lot of homeworks are pointless and does not help the children learn at all.

However, there are also strong arguments against this point of view. Parents and teachers argue that it is important to find out whether children can work on their own without the support from the teacher. They say that the evening is a good time for children to sit down and think about what they have learned in school.

Furthermore they claim that the school day is too short to get anything done. It makes sense to send home tasks like independent reading or further writing task which do not need the teacher support.

I think, on balance, that some homework is good idea but that should only given at the weekend when children have more time.

Exercise
Male chauvinism (men's believe in male superiority) extends even into the area of automobile driving, it seems. They believe that they are far better drivers than women. Men consider women drivers incompetent, inattentive and even dangerous behind the wheel.
 

However, statistics prove that women are, in fact, safer drivers than men. For example, insurance rates for women are 20 percent than they are for men. Another proof is that more accidents are caused by male drivers between the ages of 18 and 25 than by any other groups. Also the greater percentage of accident involving death is caused by men.
 

Although women are criticized for being too cautious, they are really just being safe drivers.The reason for women driver's safer habits can perhaps be  found in the differing attitudes of sexes toward automobiles as a convenience, like a washing machine.
 

On the other hand, men regard the automobile as an extension of their egos. Using it as a weapon when they feel particularly aggressive or using it as a status symbol.
 

In all, women are safer drivers because of their attitude. Men can learn to become safe drivers if they adopt the attitude that an automobile is merely a convenience.
